Matsumoto’s Okazuya donates meals to homeless Kalihi community

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – In Kalihi, Matsumoto’s Okazuya passed out dozens of Thanksgiving meals to the homeless community.
The small family business tells us they made at least 75 plates with things like chow fun and mochiko chicken as well as turkey, ham and pumpkin pie.
They drove through Kalihi and handed out homemade food to those in need.
“They don’t have the means to go buy themselves turkey for dinner or whatever, so we help them, we make these plates, we have fun doing it, we go and take it out, and give back to the community that gives to us so much,” Tyler Matsumoto of Matsumoto Okazuya said.
“Seeing how appreciative they are of the little things – a little plate to a lot of people is nothing. But for them, it’s their whole meal for the day, maybe even two or three days.”
The Matsumoto family has been distributing Thanksgiving day meals to the homeless for over a decade.
Not too far down the road, chefs from Hilton Hawaiian Village cooked up 450 meals for people at homeless shelters across Oahu.
Volunteers made drop offs at IHS emergency and specialty shelters, and Recovery Kauhale.
“Today we’re celebrating Thanksgiving with the guests here, making it family fuel for everyone letting them know we support them so they are not alone on the holidays and let them know we are here for them,” said Enoka Pai, IHS Men’s shelter guest services assistant.
IHS serves more than 6,000 people each year.
